Diploma HE in Counselling
One of the benefits of this training has been as awareness that my words and action have an effect on others, having been aware of the converse for years. I had never stopped to think of my influence. I came to realise how powerful this could be with both positive and negative consequences. The Course We offer a Diploma HE in Counselling at WHCM Training which aims to provide students with the skills and theory to be able to counsel children and young people using psychodynamic counseling as the core model. This course is 3.5 years in length and upon completion of the first two years training students will be awarded the Certificate HE. Upon completion of the Diploma HE students are able to progress to the BSc (Hons) in Counselling Children and Adolescents or can apply for the same qualification in Integral Counselling at ARU.
The Staff The course leader and key staff are qualified counsellors with significant experience of working with children and adolescents. Their professional backgrounds include teaching, social work, art therapy, speech and language therapy and research. Location of the course The course is held at WHCM Sycamore, which is a designated out-centre of Anglia Ruskin University, as well as being a busy counselling service for adults and children. Sycamore is a 5-minute walk away from the Rivermead Campus of ARU in Chelmsford. Sycamore is easily accessible by road, rail and bus. Chelmsford town centre is a 5-minute walk away. ARU Counselling Courses are taught on the basis of an acceptance and a valuing of difference and diversity. An understanding of anti-oppressive practice as regards race, gender, sexual orientation and disability underpins both the teaching of theory and application of counselling skills. The strength of the training lies in the scope of the course and the time for reflection. Three years later I realise it was a solid, basic introduction to the huge subject of counselling, which gave me the skills to discharge my clinical work professionally. The University Course members will have full access to student facilities at the Rivermead Campus of ARU. There is a refectory and student bar, a substantial library, student support services etc. The study of Child and Adolescent Counselling Counselling is a fascinating and demanding discipline. Counselling children and young people poses special challenges and requires particular skills and qualities. Almost anyone who is in regular contact with children or young people, whether in a formal or informal setting, will benefit from the acquisition of counselling skills. Based on a body of knowledge drawn from psychodynamic theory, developmental psychology and clinical observation, counselling offers an enriching area of study for anyone with an interest in children and their developing relationships within the family and outside. Many students of child and adolescent counselling go on to work as counsellors with a wide range of employers (e.g. schools, youth offending teams, voluntary counselling organisations.) Others use their knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of their work in other professions and voluntary activities. The Anglia Ruskin University course has been designed specifically to meet these different needs and interests. We are committed to providing high quality training in a stimulating and enjoyable atmosphere which helps all course members to advance their personal and professional development and build their individual strengths and skills. Dialogue between staff and course members will be encouraged at every stage to ensure that the course meets as fully as possible the wishes and needs of those who undertake it. NB All students enrolling onto these courses will be required to obtain a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Enhanced Disclosure as part of admissions procedure. |
